This is the place to talk about books.  If you're visiting my website, I know you love books just as much as I do.  So let's talk!

I recently read one of the best books I've ever read -- THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett.  THE HELP is Stockett's first novel, which just about blew me away.  It's not just that the book is so well-written.  Or that it's such a page-turner.  Or that Stockett is a natural storyteller.  This book actually has something to say.  And what it has to say is said in a way that isn't the least bit preachy or heavy-handed, yet it's honest and unstinting in its portrait of racial prejudice.  Yet while you're being thoroughly entertained, you're thinking and you're wondering if you've ever been guilty of the ugly behavior of some of the characters.  And, if you're a caring person -- one who can put herself into the shoes of others -- you're wondering if you'd have shown the fortitude and courage of Skeeter, Minnie, and Aibileen.  THE HELP is a book that cries out for discussion.  I'm hoping my book club will read it sometime this year.  And I hope to generate some discussion here on my website.  If you've read this book and have an opinion, please  send me an e-mail at patricia@patriciakay.com.
